What this site is
Many people read Revelation 13 as being fulfilled in our own time, and some name names. This site sets those readings side by side and weighs them in the same way: against the marks Scripture and the Church reveal, set out on The First Beast, and against the Church's standards for reading Scripture. Each reading is first stated as its holder would state it. The conclusions are about arguments, never about persons.
Fr. John
Fr. John is a Catholic diocesan priest. He founded and directs The Ephesus Challenge, a family of websites on the Book of Revelation and Christian hope, and he holds his own reading of Revelation 13, which he sets out on his own site. On this site his reading is weighed by the same standards as every other, and its weaknesses are stated as plainly as its strengths. This site is researched and written with Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, under his direction. Opinions about any particular reading that are his own are marked as his.
Patrons
The Ephesus Challenge is dedicated to Our Lady, Queen of Heaven and Earth, the Woman clothed with the sun (Revelation 12:1), under the patronage of St. Carlo Acutis, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, St. Rose of Lima and Pope St. John Paul II.
Independence
This is an independent project. Fr. John is a Catholic diocesan priest, but this site is his own and is not affiliated with or endorsed by his diocese, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Anthropic, or any other organization. See How this site is made.
